To Cozumel and Back
Kelly and I made it back safely from our trip to Cozumel, Mexico, which I learned is in the state of Quintana Roo (we like the name a lot, fun to say). We really enjoyed relaxing, snorkeling, and even renting an old Volkswagen Bug, presumably from the 60's, to tool around the island in for a day. We also ate a lot of very tasty food. Kelly and I both got a little sunburn but for the most part sustained no major pain. I did, however, sustain a barotrauma to my middle ear (my diagnosis, not official) from snorkeling. My right ear has been plugged for almost a week. I might try to see a doctor soon, but I have very little time. One of the highlights of the trip was an appetizer we had a restaurant called Guido's, yes we ate Italian food in Mexico one night. This appetizer was fish carpaccio, very thin slices of raw tuna with a garlic sauce. It made my all time top ten foods list for sure. The rest of the time we ate a lot of fish and vegetarian dishes that were more authentic Mexican cuisine. Cozumel was very touristy especially with the 8 to 10 cruise ships disembarking daily, so I would not want to go back and besides there are plenty of other places in the world to see. I feel rested and recharged after getting a good 8 hours of sleep every night, plus a nap here and there. We love you all!

Sorry to hear you had a so-so vacation in Cozumel. I spent the first 33 years of my life in Chicago, but have been calling Quintana Roo (Playa del Carmen) my home for over 2 years now. It's not all bad! Although I agree that there is much more of the world to see, if you ever make it back to this part of Mexico, stay on the mainland and spend some time in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, or even farther south. Those areas are far less touristy than the cruise ship docks of Cozumel.
Also, get your ear checked... trapped water can cause some nasty ear infections!

Sounds like you had a great time. I wish we could have been there too!! But where are the pictures you promised to post? Want to see you lounging in the sun!!
Cozemel sounds really nice right now...I hope it was GREAT. We are waiting for the pictures of your sunny paradise.
I'm also dreaming of the tuna. It sounds really good and I love seared Ahi tuna. This sounds similar but better.
Welcome back to regular old life.
